Websites have financial incentives to spread disinformation – increasing their online traffic and, ultimately, their advertising revenue. Meanwhile, the dissemination of disinformation has disruptive and impactful consequences. As online media consumption behaviours constantly evolve, disinformation tactics evolve alongside them. With greater access to information, readers can now connect to their information bubble in a more intuitive yet also more invasive and isolating way.

This makes the spread of disinformation an urgent topic spanning the interface between quality journalism, media technology and the polarisation of society.

The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) examines this critical connection through robust research and analysis. Using our unique selection of indicators and a combination of human review and machine learning, GDI assesses a site’s overall risk of carrying disinformation. Now, GDI has compiled initial insights into Italy’s media market and its overall levels of disinformation risk, along with the strengths and challenges the sites might face in mitigating disinformation risks.

Learn more at the launch of GDI’s Disinformation Risk Assessment report on the Italian media market! With this panel, we aim to start a conversation about the impact of disinformation and explore potential solutions and challenges in each of these domains.

The launch event will see panelists discuss the findings of the research, and discuss the impacts of those findings, before taking Q&A from the audience. The working language of this event is Italian but live translation to English will be provided.
